2012 – Yarra Valley – 75 – Yarra Valley
From the Vestey Family estate in the Yarra Valley, which was once home to Dame Nellie Melba (Australia’s most famous Soprano after whom the toast is named), Coombe Farm is an excellent hand crafted Cabernet Merlot. The vines are planted in one of the coolest parts of the vineyard. Low-lying and with a slightly south west aspect, the site encourages the maintenance of fresh acidity and bright flavours – ideal in the warmest of years. Each variety was harvested and fermented separately before being transferred to French oak barriques for a period of 12 months aging. The final blend – a combination of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon and 18% Merlot – was achieved prior to bottling. Great value for money and a wine to follow.
